8.  Season-long Rice TOT in Thailand

Thailand has long been known for the quality of its rice among South East Asian countries.  Thailand has been a major player in the international rice market. However, Thai farmers still used high levels pesticides and herbicides.

This training activity was an unusual collaboration.  Usually regional IPM activities are a collaboration with ministries of agriculture.  In this case, the collaboration was with the Department of Non-formal Education of the Government of Thailand.  Training participants were from Non-formal Education and the trainers were from World Education.  The two A-Team Trainers, Pajarningsih and Syamsu Hari Susilo, provided technical as well as training support.  Specific activities of the A-Team trainers included curriculum development, facilitation of specific activities, and process evaluation.

“Many of the participants had some experience in agriculture as they came from rural areas.  What they found new and interesting were activities on facilitation topics and how to conduct a FFS.”
